ROOTING in Practice: Inside the Choreographer’s Kitchen

  • Mark Morris Dance Center 3 Lafayette Avenue Brooklyn, New York, 11217 United States (map)

You’re invited to experience Paloma McGregor’s Fishtrap Method for cultivating a creative pantry, testing choreographic recipes, and cooking up a nourishing, collaborative process. We will move, write, and storytell while building community and craft.

Nurturing creative communities is Paloma's choreographic imperative. She's spent 15 years developing and refining her Fishtrap Method for collaboration and community building, rooted in exploring her father’s vanishing fishing tradition and three animating questions:

  • What do we take with us?

  • What do we leave behind?

  • What do we reclaim?

Participants will use the Pantry as a metaphor for the creative resources we bring with us. We will test and develop Recipes to generate and refine materials. We push at our growing edges, move through generative tensions, and center ideas bigger than any one of us. We will laugh and question, contemplate and cook up visions together, nourishing our individual and collective possibilities.
