Inspired by the Swahili word meaning creativity and imagination, the UBUNIFU Campaign seeks to honor the ways in which UBW has lived our values for four decades, while solidifying our ability to embody them for decades to come.

We take this legacy seriously and are making moves to secure our future at a time when the odds are stacked against us and the art we make. Funds raised from the UBUNIFU Campaign will support two goals:

  1. Funding UBW’s ongoing operations, to ensure our work can continue to impact audiences, communities, and the broader dance world.

  2. Establishing UBW’s first Innovation and Opportunity Reserve Fund, which will allow us to imagine and pursue opportunities for innovation whenever they arise, unrestricted by the ever-changing philanthropic landscape.

We’ve already raised almost $2.9M toward our $3M goal, thanks to the generosity of lead funders, donors, and our board of directors! But UBW’s strength has always come from our community. This spring, we’re calling on our community of artists, social justice visionaries, corporate leaders, dance lovers, UBW alums, and dance lovers to help us raise $40,000 to celebrate 40 years. Thanks to a generous match from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, your gifts will be matched 2:1 until the end of the campaign!
