SUPPORT UBW
SUPPORT UBW
For more than 38+ years, Urban Bush Women’s mission has been to create exceptional, provocative art, develop future leaders, and engage communities in our homebase of Brooklyn, across the country, and around the world in art-making as a way of effecting social change.
This important work is only possible due to our donors! As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, and in this unprecedented year, tickets and other earned revenue account for only 10 percent of UBW’s budget. The rest is covered by contributions from generous donors like you.
It will take all of us. Every audience member. Every SLI alum. Everyone who has danced with UBW as a member of The Company or as a participant in a BOLD workshop. Every person who has been inspired by the work UBW creates year after year. Everyone who has a personal philosophy, career or view of the world shaped by UBW. You can make a difference!

WHY NOW?
WHY NOW?
This is a truly unique moment for UBW, the dance community, and our country, and it is our responsibility to build on this moment to increase support of UBW organizational capacity.
UBW's work on stages and in communities has gained the organization significant national awards and recognition. Most recently, Urban Bush Women was honored to be one of only 20 organizations designated by the Ford Foundation as one of “America’s Cultural Treasures.” In June 2021, it became public that UBW was a recipient of another transformational gift, this one from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.
Simultaneously, we are starting to see the impact of many efforts, including the UBW Choreographic Center Initiative, on the dance community as it has experienced increased engagement (presenting, funding and residencies) with women(+) of color choreographers.
Finally, we are seeing more people and institutions seeking ways to leverage the arts and social justice for real change during our current political climate. UBW has spent more than 35 years developing the tools in communities and on the stage to meet these needs in the dance community and in our country.
Our supporters seek to nurture the art that nurtures them. Please join us as we seize the opportunity to leverage this moment to build UBW organizational capacity.
