Ms. Walton has over 35 years of experience as an arts administrator, supporting the professional, creative, and organizational development of artist and arts organizations locally, nationally, and internationally through performance, visual, humanities, and education programs.
She served as the first Executive Director of the Harlem Arts Alliance (HAA), a non-profit arts service organization (Harlem Arts Advocacy Week, Urban Artists Initiative, Harlem Dance Alliance).
Prior to joining HAA, she served as the first Vice President of Programming for Jazzmobile, Inc.,
a not-for-profit jazz presenting organization. She was responsible for the annual presentation of over 100 performance programs by established and emerging Jazz artists and for developing complementary jazz education and humanities programs including NEA Jazz Masters Live: “Masters Behind the Music”; NEA American Masterpieces project “A Touch of Taylor” and “Taylor Made commissioned and presented Wycliffe Gordon’s score for Oscar Micheaux’s silent film "Within Our Gates.”
As an independent arts consultant, Ms. Walton counts as her clients The Apollo Theater (WOW: Women of the World Festival, Harlem Healthy Soul Festival), The Greater Harlem Chamber of Commerce (Harlem Week, Harlem Jazz & Music Festival), Jazzmobile (Keep the Music Playing, Summerfest, Minton’s Playhouse Residency), The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation (Research), Harlem Stage (audience development and outreach for WaterWorks and The Theater of War's "Antigone in Ferguson"), 651 ARTS (The Woodshed Network), and Dianne McIntyre/Sounds in Motion (Admin).
Previous positions include 651 Arts (Betty Carter Jazz Ahead, Africa Exchange), Arts International (Grants Administrator, Projects & Partnerships, Women’s Voices: Africa), Festival Productions (Client Services), and the "I Have a Dream Foundation (Administrator). She served as a member of Manhattan Community Board 9 (CB9) for ten years co-founding and co-chairing the Arts & Culture Committee, She served as a member of the Nominating Committee (2016/2017 Season) for The Lucille Lortel Awards recognizing excellence in New York Off-Broadway theatre, and was the recipient of the 2014 Harlem Arts Festival’s “Lynnette Velasco Community Impact Award”
