Mixed Repertory

Telling Black women’s stories, words don’t do it justice.
The English language is faulty for the Black experience.
The metaphors applied to us must be abundant and continuous.

This energetic evening includes new and iconic works by Founding Artistic Director Jawole Willa Jo Zollar, and new commissions by guest choreographers, including Vincent E. Thomas, and others to be announced. UBW legacy repertory may include works such as the acclaimed Shelter, timely in its reflection on homelessness and displacement (recently commissioned by AILEY);  Batty Moves, which celebrates beauty in all the different shapes, sizes and shades we come in;  Hep Hep Sweet Sweet, which inspired our full-length dance-driven jazz musical SCAT!; and other works to be announced. The program will feature live music.
